About the Marion Area Genealogy Society and the Marion County Historical Society


Marion Area Genealogy Society

The Marion Area Genealogy Society, a chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society, was founded in 1976. It publishes a quarterly newsletter, Marion Memories. The society is actively working on copying local records for publication and indexing local holdings.

The Marion Area Genealogy Society meets on the first Saturday of every month except January and February at 10:00 AM at Heritage Hall (169 East Church Street, Marion). Dues are $8.00 ($10.00 for a couple), payable in December. The mailing address for the Marion Area Genealogy Society is P.O. Box 844, Marion, OH 43302.


Marion County Historical Society

The Marion County Historical Society was founded in 1969. Since then the society has provided lectures and tours to the community and has had exhibits at the County Fair and the Fall Fair. The collections of the society include period furnishings and clothing, bound newspapers, courthouse records, business records, and personal memorabilia. The society maintains a museum, library, offices, gift shop, publications, and archives in Heritage Hall (169 East Church Street, Marion).
